Kick off the second full day of the Leadership Summit. Here, we will provide an overview of the day 2 agenda. 

City Year was founded in 1988 as a national service program to unite young adults from diverse backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time community service. City Year has grown from 50 corps members in Boston to more than 3,000 members serving in 29 US cities, as well as in South Africa and the UK.

Hear from Dr. Michael Stevens, Senior Vice President at City Year and Executive Director of City Year DC, about how he's leading his organization through a time of rapid change and lessons that the SETDA community can take away as systems leaders.

In addition to our usual board and member committee reports and sharing the board election results, our voting State Education Agency (Class I) members will consider and act on proposed membership actions.

Ensuring that districts have adequate practices in place to protect student data privacy is an imperative for all state leaders. However, it can be difficult to determine how districts are faring with their privacy work and what resources they might need. Even more elusive is gathering data to demonstrate that resources you may be providing are having the intended impact of improving privacy protections for all students. In this session, hear from CoSN Trusted Learning Environment Project Director and state education agency leaders about how a new CoSN partnership program is designed to provide the insights and resources to help elevate privacy practices across your districts.

The 2024 State EdTech Trends survey and report tracks how state education agencies and policymakers are adapting to a digital world post-pandemic while also identifying state priorities relating to technology and education. Conducted in collaboration with Whiteboard Advisors, the report includes responses from SETDA members, state superintendents, and other senior state officials.

Join CAST for a learning experience that empowers leaders to become a catalyst for change in closing the digital design divide. This insightful session will highlight the 2024 National Education Technology Plan’s (NETP) commitment to closing the Digital Use, Design, and Access Divides, creating inclusive, engaging, and accessible learning environments for all learners through Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Presenters debunk common myths and present facts about UDL and assistive technology as aligned in the federal Assistive Technology Guidance released in January 2024. They also discuss the April 2024 final rule from the Department of Justice, which now requires state and local governmental entities—including early childhood, elementary, secondary, and postsecondary institutions—to ensure that web- or mobile app-based digital learning resources are appropriate for and usable by learners with disabilities.
